The World Library and Information Congress is coming to London for the first time in 25 years

The most prestigious international event in the calendar of library and information professionals is coming home to London in 2027. Freeman Sue Lacey Bryant, who is President of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), is delighted to share the news.

After a successful bid by a partnership led by CILIP, The World Library and Information Congress, will take place in London and across the UK in 2027.

The seven category winners of the awards, organised by The Stationers' Company, were unveiled at a packed ceremony and champagne lunch last Friday (17 October).

The flagship award, Innovator of the Year 2025, which was presented by Dr Vanessa Lawrence CB, was award to us for our sustainable and discreet period disposal bags. Our bags are designed to tackle the plastic pollution caused by tampons and pads in waterways, by stopping people flushing them down the loo. We are also seeking to normalise the conversation around periods and period waste disposal.

Last week Freeman John Livingston took a break from his work chairing the Stationers Warrants Panel to launch the Operation Christmas Child appeal at his church. John is a lay preacher at Datchet Baptist Church who have been supporting the “Shoebox” appeal which sends boxes packed with gifts to kids in less developed countries who would not get a present at Christmas.

Invitatation to the University of Hertfordshire's  Heritage Hub's upcoming Women's Heritage Seminar to celebrate the launch of Dr Sharon Maxwell Magnus' recently published book, 'Feminism, UK Women’s Magazines and the Women Who Created Them, 1975-1992: More than Just a Glossy Cover'. Sharon will be talking about coverage of Feminism in women’s magazines of the period, with particular reference to the Sex Discrimination Act (1975) and Equal Pay Act (1970), on the anniversary, or very close to it, of their enactment. There will also be a talk by Penny East, Chief Executive at the Fawcett Society, who will discuss what Millicent Fawcett's work on equal pay and equality can tell us about the future threats of AI and technological change to the gender pay gap.

The programme offers an opportunity to work as an intern for a Polish company while exploring the culture and history of Poland. I have been accepted as an intern at EMCA S.A. Energy Logserver, they specializes in cybersecurity and IT/business consulting for green energy solutions.

I began my Polish adventure in Warsaw in mid-September. Since other scholars had started earlier, I had to catch up quickly. On the same day, I signed the scholarship contract and rushed to a pierogi workshop, where I made my own Polish dumplings my first activity in the programme and the first time I met my fellow scholars.

The Bell House Print Room & Bindery in Dulwich Village has been awarded a significant National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to expand its community engagement and creative education programmes.

Co-founded by Liveryman Simon Trewin, literary agent and heritage crafts advocate, together with artist and designer Tania Hurt-Newton, the studio has become a beacon for traditional letterpress printing and bookbinding in South London. Working in collaboration with the charitable trust at Bell House, the Print Room has helped hundreds of visitors reconnect with the tactile joy of ink, paper, and type.
